A must for architecture lovers in the heart of Périgord Noir, Sarlat-la-Canéda is known for having the highest density of classified historic monuments, including the Maison de la Boétie and the former church of Sainte-Marie, restored by Jean Nouvel into a huge covered market. As you wander through its picturesque streets, you'll come across some magnificent reminders of its past and some superb Gothic and Renaissance town houses, such as the Hôtel Plamon, the Hôtel Magnanat and the Hôtel de Vassal. Don't miss the Sarlat panoramic lift, which will take you up to one of the most beautiful views of the town. And if you want to discover the local producers and their produce, there's nothing like strolling down the aisles of the town's traditional or organic markets.

The 1001 châteaux: The Dordogne Valley

Dordogne has many châteaux to discover, all steeped in history. We recommend you visit the Château Les Milandes, Josephine Baker's famous castle, continue your journey along the road to history with the Château de Beynac, a stone sentinel that has watched over the whole region for over 9 centuries, and finish with the Château de Castelnaud, a castle built on a rocky spur in the 12th century, offering a superb panorama of the river Dordogne.

The Vézère Valley and its prehistoric sites

The Vézère Valley is a must for prehistory enthusiasts. We recommend you visit Lascaux IV, the complete reproduction of the famous cave. You can discover the cave, the cave art and ask any questions you may have.
The village of Les Eyzies is a concentration of caves and prehistoric sites. You can visit the Musée National de la Préhistoire, the Combarelles cave and the Font-de-Gaume cave, as well as the town's various shelters: Pataud, Cro-Magnon and du Poisson.

And the 2nd visit is free!

The Marqueyssac hanging gardens offer more than 6 kilometres of shady walks, surrounded by hundred-year-old box trees and dotted with belvederes, rock gardens, waterfalls and much more. Relax in the gardens of Marqueyssac.
Eyrignac and its gardens are one of the natural gems of Périgord. There are no fewer than 300 yew, box, hornbeam and ivy topiaries, as well as fountains, ponds, a rose garden and flower gardens.

Collonges-la-Rouge has been listed as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in France’, where you can visit the Chapelle des Pénitents, the Market Hall and its communal oven, as well as the Mermaid House.
